Linn Benton Food Share

What We Do

Linn Benton Food Share (LBFS)  distributes over 3 million pounds of food annually through a network of 68 local non-profit partners. Including food pantries, meal sites, gleaning groups, and supplemental agencies. LBFS is a proud member and Partner Distribution Organization of Oregon Food Bank, and an affiliate member of the Feeding America Network.

Linn Benton Food Share Tax ID: 93-1099406

LBFS is the central food hub for a strong network of local, non profit agencies including emergency food box pantries, public meal sites, at-risk population programs and gleaning groups.

We offer a variety of direct services to community members, partnered with local farms, grocery stores, and healthcare, in addition to our regional food distribution. Learn more below.

Gleaning is the practice of recovering food from farmers fields, grocery stores and even backyards. Learn more about gleaning and our specific programs.

How you can support us

Linn Benton Food Share - Everybody Eats

Volunteer!
In addition to many volunteer opportunities at local soup kitchens and food pantries, LBFS needs volunteers to help with food repackaging at our warehouse, host or participate in a food drive/fundraiser, help with special events, and more!

Donate!
The most effective way to help in the fight against hunger is to donate money. For every dollar donated, LBFS can provide the equivalent of 6 meals to individuals and families in need.

Direct Services

  • Commodity Supplemental Food Program: Once-a-month supplemental food box to seniors 60 years and older and at or below 130% of current federal poverty level. Saving each participant over $500 annually to use for rent, medications and other essential expenses.
  • SHARE Medical Food Box Program: Providing immediate food at discharge from Albany and Lebanon Samaritan hospitals. Follow up delivery of food box at patient’s home address.
  • Volunteers are crucial in filling these premade food packages each month. Linn Benton Food Share, due to the emergency of COVID-19, is now constructing premade food packages at the LBFS warehouse for our two-county region.
  • Fresh Alliance Program: In partnership with local grocery stores, LBFS collects dairy, milk, produce, meat and other products and distributes the products immediately to our network of partner agencies.
  • Food Rescue Program: We collect “prepared but not served” food from the OSU campus. Food is distributed immediately to meal site locations in Linn and Benton counties.

Types of Network Agencies

  • Emergency Food Boxes (Food Pantries): Local food pantries provide a 3-5 day supply of food to individuals and families at or below the 300% of the federal poverty rate. These agencies serve an average of over 14,000 individuals per month.
  • Emergency Meal Sites (Soup Kitchens) and Shelters: Emergency meal sites provide a welcoming environment and a free meal to individuals and families seeking assistance. Emergency shelters provide safe havens and meal services for families, youth, and individuals who do not have access to a safe place to spend the night. These agencies provide an average of 24,000 meals per month.
  • Supplemental, Non-Emergency Programs: These non-profit agencies serve low-income individuals or families and food is part of the program services. The agencies include child care centers, drug & alcohol rehab centers, group homes, senior care facilities, and weekend backpack programs. They provide an average of 23,000 meals per month.
  • Gleaning Groups: Gleaning groups are non-profit organizations, consisting of and run by low-income beneficiaries. Gleaning groups participate in field and market gleans, hold fundraisers to support their groups, care for their “adoptee” households, and seek grant funding to access additional food for their members.

Gleaning Programs

Gleaning is the practice of recovering food left behind from fields that are not profitable to harvest. While it’s been around since biblical times, as a practical humanitarian activity today, gleaning contributes to the collection and distribution of high-quality food for low-income individuals and families that would otherwise go to waste.

Watch the video above from Philomath Community Gleaners, a program of Philomath Community Services, to learn more about gleaning here in our communities!

  • We partner with 14 gleaning groups throughout Linn and Benton counties
  • Our local gleaning groups distribute over 2 million pounds of food to nearly 8,000 people annually

To join a gleaning group or learn more about other ways to support the gleaners, contact our Gleaning and Volunteer Programs Coordinator.

We believe that no one should be hungry. We believe that everyone deserves respect and attention. Services rendered through our network partners and our own direct service programs provide more than a food box, more than calories. We strive to provide dignity and hope.

We are committed to the proposition that good food for all means better health outcomes, builds important community bonds, and fosters an environment of worth for both the client and volunteer. Our true mission is discovering the capacity for compassion in our communities. As such, ours is a public trust of donor’s money, time and effort in addition to providing the simple relief of a welcome meal. Join us!
