Alsea Schools column: Youth receive workforce readiness skills through program

From Philomath News:

Alsea School kicked off its 2023 Summer Crew in partnership with Community Services Consortium on July 6.

The Summer Crew program is designed to help students earn money in the summer and continue learning outside the classroom. This year the crew will be working at various sites in Alsea and Benton County. Students are able to earn credit for work-based learning from the school.

In addition to their work with community partners and learning about jobs related to natural resources, students are also engaging in weekly workshops to assist with work readiness. The crew has obtained their first aid and CPR certifications and engaged in career exploration workshops.

[CSC’s] Principal Youth Advisor Angela Turpen is an Alsea alumni and has a passion for bringing their programs to rural youth in Benton County.
